This is a great post, on point to what we encounter on a day to day basis with some of our clientele. Reducing sample size is a key issue. Sometimes what clients fail to realize is when a market research firm puts together the RFP, we are using our industry knowledge to make a recommended approach or "best case" approach. That's not to say that we can't work with you if it falls outside your budget in order to limit the number of people we sample or change the mode. Just because we change the "best case" scenario doesn't mean the research is bad, or that the feedback is not valuable, its just simply not the ideal way to go about it.

We cover this topic and a lot of others on our new blog. Feel free to check it out - www.RMSbunkerblog.wordpress.com

Leveraging social media for marketing research can be a rich source of information as well. These sites allow researchers to know whose opinions they are receiving and they can look at discussions on these sites and use the demographic in them to better understand their market. See here for a detailed discussion on using Facebook for marketing research
